Tomaree Community College

With assistance from a Federal Government Volunteer Grant, the Club is providing certified first aid training to 15 members of the Management Committee, Day Captains and coaches. The aim is to complement the CPR training that accompanied the purchase of the defibrillator and to maintain the Club's duty of care to members and visitors while playing croquet at Nelson Bay.

The first aid course offered by Tomaree Community College comprises an online learning component which is followed by a one day, face-to-face practical session. Both components require 100% pass rate before certification is approved.

The members who have completed the training to date are: Rob Batho, Trevor Black, Liz Friend, Peter Gordon, Karen Lilly, Cheryl Lloyd, Jan Puckeridge, Kay Smith, Sandy Tawa, Susan Timbs and David Wilson.

Newcastle National Park Croquet Club

Croquet Australia has recently completed the development of a competency based coaching program, developed by a team of senior coaches under the direction of National Coaching Coordinator, Greg Bury. This program has been developed to provide a clear coaching pathway and to train coaches at all levels.

To achieve qualification as a coach, candidates must demonstrate competency in teaching the general elements and croquet skills and tactics covered by the program at a number of levels:

Level 1 – Introduction to croquet for players new to the game

Level 2 – Skills and tactics for players at an intermediate level

Level 3 - Skills and tactics for players at an advanced and/or interstate level

Level 4 - Skills and tactics for Association Croquet players at an advanced level

HPM - Skills and tactics for players at an international level

As part of the roll-out of the new coaching program, Croquet NSW organised sessions in Newcastle (January) and Canberra (February) to enable already accredited coaches to be certified under the new program.

All 7 accredited coaches from Nelson Bay Croquet Club attended the sessions at Newcastle National Park Croquet Club on 28th, 29th and 30th January. As a result, the Club now has certified coaches as follows:

Trevor Black:

Karen Lilly:

Cheryl Lloyd:

Sandy Tawa:

Margaret Thompson:

Susan Timbs:

David Wilson:

The Nelson Bay Croquet Club is committed to the new coaching program to ensure that high quality coaching is available to all members of the Club whether experienced players or newcomers to the game.
